Hidden text. Click here 4)Bert: Against all the rules, Jim the jailguard took Charlie out as a ''great goodness'' and said, ''The lady you hung around got engaged someone more suitable''. Then, to Jim's big surprise, Charlie freed his hand out of his grip and fell off a cliff into the waves. Then Eve sailed in her creaky boat to that island, to see for what they arrested her son. Jim told about Charlie's suicide with laughter. But the elderly woman's eyes flashed an ominous fire, and the man retreated, trembling: the herder woman was truly a witch. Back in her village, Eve vowed revenge about her son; as a revenge, she determined to give Plumbdragons and Murrays ''a medicine of their own taste''. Eve (to the brown ox): Come on! Tom the butcher: A full skeleton, right? Eve (paying him the sack of gold coins): - You know it,Tom! Bert: At night, Eve scattered about the skeleton of the ox. Along came my parents' wedding, and Eve showed up straight on the ceremony. Eve: Hey, listen, Victoria Plumb - you cuckolded my son, and your own son will... Oliver and Lucy Plumbdragon: What this foul beggar doing here?! Bert: Everyone was furious about her appearance. Male wedding guests: Take her out, vicar, quick!!! Col. David Murray: Yes, take her out, vicar! Female wedding guest: What's the matter with our vicar? Female wedding guests: Yes, what is he looking for? 5)Bert: But the vicar has only crossed his arms in fear - like any other priest, he knew that's the witch, not a ''foul beggar''. Eve continued, ignoring my father's burning gaze at her: Victoria, your husband will be surely produced into General, yes! Bert: She predicted that my father will be produced into general, if he'll distinguish himself in battle, - as well as my birth, and my future. Eve: And you'll give him birth to a son! Oh-hoh, his descendant, his Family Pride and your only delight! As the son of the general, he ought to join the army after his 18th Birthday - and he'll get his brand new uniform... But in the morning of that momentous day - he'll grow up the horns! Col. David Murray: What's the hell... Oliver Plumbdragon: What's the hell this crazy old woman is talking about? Eve: I'm not crazy, and I know what I say, you damned Dragon! Your grandson will grow up the horns like my ox, which I brought to the butcher a few days ago! Oliver: Get out... I'll not allow you to dis... disrupt my daughter's wedding! Eve: And only when one girl of his own kind accepts him the way he is, will my curse be broken! Bert: Till then, my mother was unaware that Eve Swoopie is a witch. If her father stuttered from rage, she stuttered from fear. Victoria: Mrs. Swoopie... please... spare my baby boy who's not even born yet! I swear I'm not guilty... I'm for Col... Colonel Murray unwillingly, I was forced to marry him! Eve: What does it matter to me, when my Charlie's gone?! He drowned himself in the sea, because of your infidelity! Victoria: Ah-ah! Eve: Oh, are you really ashamed about my son? Well, I'll let every kind of girl to disenchant your own, even if she'd be the last beggar, - 'cause he'd get those horns all the same! Bert: But then my grandfather lost all the pieces of patience, and commanded to take the witch out by force. When I was born, my mother was alone, because of my father was in a military campaign, in the Duke Wellington's unit. Despite that my mother felt the genuine happiness of motherhood, she never came to terms with her unwanted marriage. So, when it came to christening, she named me after one of the Napoleonic Generals. Even in the metric book I was registered as Bertrand. Gen. David Murray: My son... Bertrand... in the metric! (baby Bert crying, ''Boo-hoo!'', scared by his angry and unknown father). Bert: When my father returned from the battle of Waterloo in a General's uniform and learned about my metric under this name, he accepted it unwillingly, but he told my mother to never say it completely. My grandfather had a full support about his son-in-law, and strengthtened his ban by his own for any pronunciation of ''Bertrand'' aloud. Oliver: Remember, Vicky: I said you, like David had said: call the boy ''Bert'' only! Bert: They too banned to tell me about Eve and her spell. 6)Bert: That's why I knew nothing about it until the very last minute, and I grew up normally - like all the boys in such families like ours. I liked the nursery songs of Dottie, my old nurse... Dottie sings ''Humpty Dumpty'': ''Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the King's horses, All the King's men, Couldn't put Humpty together again.'' Dottie sings ''Pussycat and Queen: ''- Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been? - I've been to London to look at the Queen. - Pussycat, pussycat, what did you there? - I caught a little mouse under a chair''.
